So much has happened in the first quarter of the year. There have been moments of reflection, grief, joy, doubt, hesitance, and courage at various points. Sometimes in these pivotal moments, we feel alone, unheard, and unseen.

We try to fight the battles on our own, and when we lose, we internalize the failures, which break us even further. It is often in our darkest moments that we remember that there is God. When things fall apart, we remember the hymns and scriptures, and not so much when things are on the mend.

There is no denying that this is a time of revival. As South Africans, we are a prayerful nation. We sing the prayer in our national anthem, in our music, in our conversations, and even in our comedy. As many celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, perhaps it is time for us to resurrect our relationship with God.

While it is well and good that we keep trying to do things using our own human abilities, there is a greater power in surrendering to God and trusting Him to come through for us in more ways than we can ever comprehend.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways and he will make your paths straight.”

With all the wars and unrest happening in the world, you might ask: “God, where are you?”  Dear Joburger, you are justified in asking that question.

Considering that we live in times where supposed men of God are acquitted of rape, it is easy to lose faith the justice system and to a certain extent, society. We often get annoyed when President Cyril Ramaphosa refers to us as “a resilient people”. However, the truth is that we are. We are resilient and powerful. Look at the recent anti-GBVF marches. Look at how we rally behind our national teams when they play against other countries. Whether we know it or not, God is always with us.

Let us revive our faith in Him so that we can find comfort in knowing that His grace is sufficient for all of us.

Whether you are traveling for a church gathering, hosting family and friends for lunch, or even working to make an extra buck, say a little prayer. A prayer for your heart and spirit. A prayer for your loved ones. A prayer for your dreams.

Being a prayerful nation does not mean there will be no frustrating challenges in the GNU or the justice system. It simply means that we will continue to push through in the face of adversity.

In the Bible, David was confident enough to fight and slay Goliath because he knew God was with him. We move differently when we move with God!

Happy Easter!
