The effects of a long weekend that begins on a Friday must be studied. We blinked, and the week after the long weekend was over, here we are again. It would be an injustice not to join the celebration of the many weddings of some of Joburg’s favourite personalities. Presenter and actress Candice Modiselle led the way as she tied the knot with her Mr Sello. The comments section on her social media posts about the nuptials was flooded with messages of congratulations!

As the weekend continued, Joburgers and the world learned that the longest-reigning Miss Universe and former Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, got hitched to Luthando Bolowana. “ I love you endlessly……. Husband,” she wrote in a caption on her social media post. The wedding celebration was nothing short of a fairytale, from her entire look to the venue and the guests, not forgetting the part where she sang to her husband while he played the guitar. Even the bitter posts of some online users saying “she deserves better than him” could not stop the wave of support and love from Zozi’s fans and friends.

It was more than laughs and giggles for Leboganag Tlokana aka The Funny Chef. Not only did the cook book author celebrate her 35th birthday, but she added lobola celebrations as well. In a social media post, she revealed that she was officially off the market.” Do you believe it or not? Ke no re ke tsoga ka kreya, Men in Black ba kukile le briefcase at my gate. Ka botsa papaka gore a ba bulele, ke maketse ba nkapesa khiba, ka re, ‘Eh bras?’ Mara ke yona,” She wrote in her caption. It seems like wedding season is open and we will march on into it!

Joburgers took a sigh of relief as the city’s mayor Dada Morero finally spoke up on the state of the metro in a press briefing. The mayor highlighted the range of issues that continue to trouble Joburg residents, including faulty traffic signals, potholes, and water issues.

“We can indicate that with the engagements with the Water Department, it has become clear that there’s no shortage of water, except that the challenges we have are infrastructure–related,” he said. Many Joburgers lamented at how uninspiring the address was. MlamuliSA on X tweeted, “Mayor Dada Morero sounds tired, doesn’t inspire any confidence and looks defeated! The man appears to have already given up trying to run Africa’s economic powerhouse!”

The mayor also had to answer the question of influencers who were seen, praising his administration. Excitement got the better of them as one them even referred to the mayor as a “minister”. “I want to assure residents on this matter: I have never made any instruction on that matter. I do have a communications team, and I believe that (the) communications team have (has) not hired any influencers whatsoever to hype our activities”, the mayor said.

4 years after the tragic lockdown, thanks to the Covid19 pandemic, it seems like nature is healing. Joburg is set to host a variety of concerts with international headliners in the next few months. Hey Neighbour, Jazz in the lights, Joy of jazz are some of the big events coming the city of gold. The month of March was another whirlwind, both locally and internationally. Only three months into the year, it feels like we are still adjusting to the intensity of the events that have unfolded thus far.

As we bid this month farewell, I implore you to march on to the new month with hope and boundless love. As Joburgers, we already have an endless list of problems. Let’s try and balance it with endless memories created with the ones who matter to us. Dear Joburger, march on!
