St John’s College proudly celebrates the exceptional achievements of its Matric Class of 2024. They performed exceptionally well in the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) examinations. All 125 students contributed to the College’s remarkable 100% tertiary pass rate. Out of these, 124 secured Bachelor’s Degree passes. This marks an extraordinary collective achievement.

“The Class of 2024 holds a special place in my heart, as we began our journeys at St John’s together five years ago,” said Stuart West, Executive Headmaster. “Through challenges and triumphs, including the shadow of the pandemic, the Class of 2024 reclaimed the fullness of College life with spirit, tenacity, and joy, while striving for the highest academic standards. It has been an honour to witness their growth and leadership. Today, we celebrate each matriculant for upholding our cherished heritage of academic excellence. These results reflect the quality, commitment, and expertise of our teachers, the dedication of our students, and the enriching academic environment that prepares young minds for success in all areas of life.”

Key achievements include:

  • 125 students achieving 401 distinctions in total, averaging 3.2 distinctions per candidate.
  • Two students earned 9 distinctions each, while 11 students achieved 8 distinctions.
  • A remarkable 42% of students attained four or more distinctions.
  • In the Further Studies subjects, 28 students earned distinctions, with 24 securing distinctions in Further Studies Mathematics (63% of candidates).
  • Three students were placed on the IEB Outstanding Achievement list, while one student earned a place on the Commendable Achievement list.
  • 16 subject results were placed in the top 1% of all IEB candidates in South Africa.

STEM Excellence was evident across various subjects:

  • Mathematics saw an uptake of 85%, significantly above the IEB average of 59%, with an average of 77% (12% above the IEB average).
  • Physical Sciences had an uptake of 65%, compared to the IEB’s 38%, with an overall average of 69% (8% above the IEB average).
  • Life Sciences saw a 70% uptake with an average of 73%.
  • Information Technology had an average of 78%.

The Humanities and Arts results were equally impressive:

  • English averaged 77%, exceeding the IEB average by 8%.
  • Dramatic Arts had an outstanding average of 88%.
  • History students achieved an average of 79%, while French and Music students averaged 86% and 85%, respectively.

The Top 12 Achievers included:

  1. Jordan Cooper – 89% and 7 distinctions.
  2. Zac Erasmus – Dux Scholar with 9 distinctions, achieving 95%.
  3. Gregory Pryce – 92% and 8 distinctions.
  4. Liam Jung – 92% and 8 distinctions.
  5. Ashil Bhagwandas – 92% and 8 distinctions.
  6. Rahul Fakira – 91% and 8 distinctions.
  7. Dominic Wrigley – 91% and 8 distinctions.
  8. Ronaldo Teixeira – 91% and 8 distinctions.
  9. Muhammad Moosa – 90% and 8 distinctions.
  10. Tristan Rhodes – 90% and 8 distinctions.
  11. Daniel Bruwer – 90% and 7 distinctions.
  12. Matthew Venter-Clelland – 89% and 9 distinctions.

IEB Outstanding Achievement List recognition was earned by Ashil Bhagwandas, Zac Erasmus, and Gregory Pryce for achieving in the top 5% of IEB candidates in six or more subjects, along with a distinction in Life Orientation.

IEB Commendable Achievement List recognition went to Rahul Fakira, who achieved within the top 5% of IEB candidates in five subjects, as well as a distinction in Life Orientation.

Additionally, St John’s College had students achieving in the top 1% of candidates per subject in several areas, including Afrikaans First Additional Language, Dramatic Arts, English Home Language, Geography, History, Latin Second Additional Language, Mathematics, and Further Studies Mathematics.

The achievements of the Matric Class of 2024 reflect the extraordinary dedication and hard work of the students. Their teachers have also contributed significantly. Additionally, their families and the broader St John’s College community have provided essential support. This outstanding performance is a testament to the enduring academic excellence upheld by the College.
