
O.J. Simpson, the former NFL player whose athletic achievements and fame were overshadowed by his 1995 acquittal in the brutal killings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and a man Ron Goldman, has died of cancer, his family announced Thursday on X. He was 76.
Simpson had an army of lawyers for the trial. The proceedings captivated the country, with millions of audiences tuning in at home and at work. Robert Kardashian Sr, Kim Kardashian’s father, was one of those representing OJ. The former NFL running back was a household name at the time of his trial, he appeared in TV shows, films and national advertisement campaigns after emerging as a star in college and professional football.
O.J. Simpson had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and received chemotherapy treatment before he died, Pro Football Hall of Fame President Jim Porter said in a statement Thursday, after the former running back’s family confirmed his death.
